February Bike Events

Author: Mark  //  Category: Rallies

This season’s rallies are kicking off 2010 with Daytona Bike Week on Feb 26, but you can also get your motorcycle fix all over the country this month, thanks to these great happenings:

The International Motorcycle Shows are hitting Minneapolis Feb 5th thru the 7th and Chicago the 19th thru the 21st. These will be the place to find 2010’s new lineup of bikes all under one roof.

Boston hosts the North East Motorcycle Expo on the 13th and 14th of Feb, with Corey Ness and loads of custom bikes and parts. That same weekend Colorado Springs is lighting up with their Hot Rods and Cool Bikes event.

February 19th — 21st, things are getting sticky in San Antonio with the River City Bike Fest, as acts like Gallagher and bands like Montrose both smash melons in their own distinct styles.

Whether you’re lucky enough to be on two wheels or stuck with four, there are plenty of motorcycle-related activities to be had in February.

Flying With American Biker

Author: Mark  //  Category: Joke Of The Week

Two Arabs boarded a flight out of London.

One took a window seat and the other sat next to him in the middle seat.

Just before takeoff, an American Biker sat down in the aisle seat.

After takeoff, the Biker kicked his boots off, wiggled his toes and was settling in when the Arab in the window seat said, “I need to get up and get a coke.”

” Don’t get up,” said the Biker, “I’m in the aisle seat; I’ll get it for you.”

As soon as he left, one of the Arabs picked up the Biker’s boot and spat in it.

When he returned with the coke, the other Arab said, “That looks good, I’d really like one, too.” Again, the Biker obligingly went to fetch it. While he was gone the other Arab picked up his other boot and spat in it. When the Biker returned, they all sat back and enjoyed the flight. As the plane was landing, the Biker slipped his feet into his boots and knew immediately what had happened.

“Why does it have to be this way?” he asked. “How long must this go on? This fighting between our nations? This hatred? This animosity? This spitting in boots and pissing in cokes?”

Activists Missing After Declaring “War on Leather” at Motorcycle Rally

Johnstown, PA (GlossyNews) – Local and state police scoured the hills outside rural Johnstown, Pennsylvania, after reports of three animal rights activists going missing after attempting to protest the wearing of leather at a large motorcycle gang rally this weekend. “Something just went wrong,” said a still visibly shaken organizer of the protest. “Something just went horribly, horribly, wrong.”                               Read Full Article

Tech Tip: Horn Adjustment

Author: Mark  //  Category: Tech Tip

When adjusting your motorcycle horn, remove it and clean it with air pressure before starting. When you are sure it is clean (free of bugs, dirt, rust…), put it back on the bike or connect it to a battery. Most horns are adjusted from the factory to operate on 12 volts. What you want to do, is adjust it at operating voltage. (13-14 volts) You can start the bike and adjust it or connect a charger to the battery. If you use the charger method, use at least a 5 amp charger to make a difference when you apply the load. Hit the horn button or connect the wires to make it blow. While it is blowing, slowly adjust the little screw (off center on the back of the horn) assuming you loosened the lock nut first. You will notice a difference in the tone and volume. Get the most out of it. lock the nut down and try it again. Sometimes the lock nut will pull the screw back enough to change the adjustment. If that happens, loosen the nut again and turn the screw in (clockwise) about 1/8th of a turn and hold the screw with the screwdriver while tightening the nut.

A motorcyclist has many of the same needs as a car driver when it comes to a GPS device. They want maps and an easy to use interface. However, the motorcyclist also has a completely different set of needs that require a robust device.

Garmin has announced a new GPS device for motorcycles called the z mo 220 that has a 3.5-inch color screen and is water resistant. The device can also stand up to fuel splashes and works while wearing gloves.

Maps of the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico are built-in and it supports turn-by-turn driving directions and speaks turns and street names aloud. The device also supports Bluetooth headsets and will ship with a mount for cars and trucks as well. The 220 will ship in March for $599.99.

AN ORIGINAL example of the world’s first motorcycle is to be put up for auction at The International Classic Motorcycle Show, Stafford on 25th April 2010.Sitting in a barn since the '30s, this Hildebrand & Wolfmüller Motorcycle is expected to fetch

The twin-cylinder, four-valve, water-cooled, 1488cc Hildebrand & Wolfmüller was built in 1895 – is expected to reach as around £60,000 when it goes up for sale. Restoration experts say the new owner will need to spend a further substantial amount of money if they decide to restore the machine to its original glory.

There are no hard figures as to how many machines were produced from the factory: some say over 2,000 were built, while others suggest the figure’s as low as 800. The number of surviving examples are likely to be substantially less.

The example Bonhams are offering, which hasn’t been started for almost 80 years, has been in the ownership of the vendor’s family in the USA since the early 1930s.

Harley-Davidson recalls 111,569 motorcycles

Author: Mark  //  Category: Biker News

Harley-Davidson Inc. is recalling 111,569 motorcycles manufactured from June 6, 2008, through Nov. 19, 2009, because of a threat of gasoline leaking in the event of a frontal collision.

The recall affects some 2009 and 2010 touring bikes, including CVO Touring and Trike products, according to information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Touring bikes are some of the Milwaukee-based motorcycle manufacturer’s most expensive lines.

The federal agency said the motorcycles’ front fuel tank mounts may distort as a result of a front-end crash, creating the potential for fuel to leak and ignite after a crash. The agency did not say how many reports were made of gas leaks or fires resulting from frontal collisions.

The agency did not say how many reports may have been made of gas leaks or fires resulting from frontal collisions. A company spokesman said Harley-Davidson is not aware of any incidents or injuries related to this condition, but decided to issue a voluntary recall in the interest of customer satisfaction and safety.

Under the recall, dealers will install left and right front braces designed to reduce front mount distortion in a crash. The installation will be performed free of charge beginning around Dec. 14. Customers can call Harley-Davidson at 414-343-4056 for more information.
